Colombo Gianni
Gianni Colombo (1937 - 1992) began to exhibit paintings, sculptures and ceramics in 1954. In 1958-59, he produced his first monochrome cotton wool reliefs which he exhibited at the Galleria Azimut in Milan and helped with the organisation along with Giovanni Anceschi, Davide Boriani, Enrico Castellani, Gabriele De Vecchi and Piero Manzoni by taking part in the first events. In 1959-60, he formed the “Gruppo T” (the "T Group"). In 1963, he helped to organise an international movement called "Nouvelle tendance" and in 1968, won first prize at the 34th Venice Biennale. In 1970, in collaboration with Vincenzo Agnetti, he made the video "Vobulazione e bieloquenza NEG" and with Gabriele De Vecchi created "Ingombri estetici" for the exhibition "Amore mio" in Montepulciano. In 1978, together with Filiberto Menna, he took part in a meeting/conference at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and was commissioned by the City of Como to design a monument to the European Resistance Movement that was inaugurated in 1983. In 1980, he became a lecturer in "Structuring of space" at the New Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and in 1985, became Director. In 1981 he won the competition "Kunst am Bau" in Berlin where in 1982 he gave a series of lessons at the Faculty of Architecture. In 1983, a personal exhibition of his works was held at Suzzara, at the Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art. In 1984, Colombo was invited to the Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan and the Venice Biennale with a personal exhibition area. In 1986, he did the stage design for Hans Zender's "Stephen Climax" at the Operntheater in Frankfurt and in 1988 created three open-air "Architetture cacogoniometriche" (Cacogoniometric Architecture) at Morterone, Carpi and the Furka Pass. In 1992, he presented the work "Spazio curvo" (Curved Space) at the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Baden-Baden and "Spazio diagoniometrico" (Diagonometric Space) at the Galerie Hoffmann in Friedberg.
